Shannon K, daughter of iconic Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu, set the Coachella 2025 stage ablaze with her electrifying performance. Making history as the first indie artist of Indian origin to represent India at the globally renowned music festival, Shannon wowed a crowd of over 120,000 music lovers at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Following in the footsteps of trailblazers like Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon, Shannon brought her unique indie-pop flavor to the festival. A short clip from her set has since gone viral on social media, capturing her high-octane performance and commanding stage presence, earning praise from fans for her undeniable confidence and charisma.
Ahead of her performance, Shannon shared her excitement:“It’s on the bucket list of every Indian-origin indie artist trying to break boundaries and be heard. Indian music is so rich — from classical to R&B to pop — and it’s often underrated. This is the beginning of something incredible, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
Her set was a perfect fusion of energy, artistry, and emotion — hallmarks of her growing discography that includes original indie-pop tracks like Give Me Your Hand, A Longtime, Always, Run, Retrace, and OMT (featuring Sonu Nigam).
In a recent interview with Zoom, Shannon reflected on the unwavering support of her father throughout her musical journey,“My dad was very happy. He was the one who inspired me to start singing in the first place. He saw a spark in me and encouraged me to pursue music as a career.”
While her mother was initially unsure, Shannon shared that her father always believed she could become an incredible singer if she remained committed and kept honing her craft. And with her Coachella debut, it’s clear that belief is paying off.
Joining the ranks of Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon, Shannon’s appearance at Coachella is a proud moment for Indian representation on the world stage, marking her as the third Indian-origin artist to perform at the iconic music festival.
