With a career spanning nearly three decades, Mahadevan's extraordinary talent and profound passion for music have yielded timeless classics. As a recipient of the Grammy Award and accolades such as the Padma Shri and three National Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, his prowess is widely celebrated.
Mahadevan, renowned both as a singer and composer, is a pivotal figure in the fusion band Shakti, alongside Zakir Hussain, which recently secured the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album with 'This Moment'. Shakti, founded by English guitarist John McLaughlin and percussionist Zakir Hussain, stands as a testament to Mahadevan's versatility and artistic brilliance.
Reflecting on his journey, Mahadevan's breakthrough came in 2000 when he clinched his maiden National Award for Best Playback Singer for the emotive rendition of 'Yenna Solla Pogirai' from the Tamil film 'Kandukondain Kandukondain'. His soul-stirring performance of 'Maa' from the acclaimed movie 'Taare Zameen Par' further solidified his status, earning him the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer.
Beyond his vocal finesse, Mahadevan is an integral part of the composing trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, responsible for delivering some of Indian cinema's most memorable songs over the years. Their collaboration on the musical album for the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' in 2004 earned them the National Award for Best Music Director.
