Music reality shows are increasingly looking beyond television ratings and audience engagement to measure their impact through music consumption and artist development. Rusk Media's I-Popstar Vol. 2 is positioning itself in this space, with its second season recording 2 billion social media views and generating over 300,000 Reels using its original songs.

As the show enters its grand finale week, its music videos have crossed 62 million views, while the season has produced more than 90 original tracks, collectively spanning over four hours of music.

Streaming on Netflix and Alright! TV, the 20-episode season features Neha Kakkar, KING and Aditya Rikhari as mentors, with Wicked Sunny as host. The format brings together emerging performers across musical genres, placing original compositions at the centre of the competition. Guest appearances by Elvish Yadav, Munawar Faruqui, Orry, Rakhi Sawant, Ravi Kishan and Tony Kakkar have further expanded the show's entertainment appeal.

Contestants Build Independent Music Identities

Among the season's emerging success stories is Nishant Mukta, whose Bhoji Pop track UP Wali Laiki has garnered 1.8 million Spotify streams and 18 million YouTube views. His other release, Bombay Ki Rani, has crossed 10 million YouTube views, highlighting the potential of regional music to reach audiences beyond its traditional markets.

Anmol Salh, mentored by Aditya Rikhari, has gained attention for his romantic musical style. His debut performance, Judaai, has crossed 2 million views and sparked conversations around its potential as a film soundtrack.

Gargi, mentored by Neha Kakkar, has connected with audiences through 4 Khapeetar, a track addressing women's strength and safety. The song has generated 4.4 million social media views and 800,000 streams, according to the company.

Sameeksha Sarkar, mentored by KING, has explored themes of sexual violence and women's everyday experiences through Bhediya. She has also collaborated with emerging indie-pop artist Aroob on Jugni.

Other contestants gaining traction include Chetanya Vaish, another Neha Kakkar mentee, whose tracks No Fear and Gal Naal, featuring Neha Kakkar, have attracted audience attention. Janki has brought Gujarati pop and music rooted in Navratri traditions to the competition.

The six finalists are Nishant Mukta and Chetanya Vaish, mentored by Neha Kakkar; Sameeksha Sarkar and Markio Tanaldo, mentored by KING; and Anmol Salh and Padmanabh Gaikwad, mentored by Aditya Rikhari.

12 Brands Associate with the Season

Beyond music discovery, I-Popstar Vol. 2 has attracted 12 brand partners across presenting, co-powered-by and category associations.

L'Oréal Paris India and Ai+ Nova Smartphone have joined as co-presenting partners, while Center Fresh and Smirnoff Lemon Pop Non Alcoholic are co-powered-by partners. Other associates include Denver Perfumes, Sennheiser, Radio Mirchi, Saregama, Godrej Appliances, VI-JOHN, Domino's and Mr Makhana.

The season's performance reflects the growing intersection of music reality formats, digital consumption and brand partnerships. With original tracks translating into streaming numbers, social media engagement and collaborations, the format is also creating opportunities for emerging artists to build audiences beyond the competition.

The larger test for I-Popstar Vol. 2, however, will be whether the visibility and digital momentum generated during the show translate into sustainable music careers for its contestants after the finale.
