Rishab Rikhiram Sharma Launches ‘Sitar For Mental Health’ Initiative In Partnership With Adayu

Neo-classical musician Rishab Rikhiram Sharma has launched a first-of-its-kind music-driven mental health initiative in India, expanding his “Sitar for Mental Health” platform into the clinical care space.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with Adayu, aims to integrate music therapy into structured mental healthcare. As part of the programme, Sharma’s music will be incorporated into a dedicated therapeutic space at the facility, allowing patients to experience the calming and reflective effects of sitar-led soundscapes.

Positioned as a blend of clinical expertise and artistic expression, the initiative seeks to foster awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations around mental health. It marks a significant step in combining evidence-based treatment with creative therapies to enhance emotional well-being.

Beyond clinical settings, the programme will expand through a nationwide school outreach starting April, aimed at promoting emotional resilience and preventive mental health among young audiences. Additional efforts will include digital awareness campaigns and community-led engagements to widen the conversation around mental wellness.

Speaking about the initiative, Sharma emphasised the emotional and healing power of music, noting that the project is designed to help individuals feel less isolated while encouraging them to reflect and seek support when needed.

Dr. Samir Parikh, associated with the mental health programme at Adayu, highlighted the importance of such collaborations in addressing stigma and reaching wider audiences, particularly at a time when mental health challenges continue to affect millions across the country.

Originally conceptualised as an immersive live experience blending Indian classical music with mindfulness practices such as breathing exercises and guided reflection, “Sitar for Mental Health” has evolved into a global movement. The platform has already reached audiences across multiple countries through concerts, digital content, and community engagement.

With this new initiative, Sharma’s work signals a growing recognition of music as a complementary tool in mental healthcare, bridging tradition, creativity, and science to build more holistic approaches to well-being.
