Renowned Punjabi and Bollywood playback singer B Praak has received a death threat demanding Rs 10 crore, triggering a police investigation in Punjab’s Mohali district. The threat, which reportedly warned that the singer would be “reduced to dust” if the demand was not met, has raised serious concerns over the safety of artists in the public eye.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the threat was communicated through a series of phone calls and a subsequent voice message sent to Punjabi singer Dilnoor, who is closely associated with B Praak. Dilnoor reportedly received two missed calls on January 5, which went unanswered. The following day, he received another call from an international number. Finding the conversation suspicious, he disconnected the call shortly after answering it.
Soon after, a voice message was sent, allegedly containing the extortion demand and a direct threat aimed at B Praak. The contents of the message were deemed serious enough to prompt immediate police action.
Mohali Police have registered a case and confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officials are currently tracing the origin of the calls and examining digital evidence, including call records and the voice message, to identify those responsible. Cybercrime and intelligence units have also been roped in, given the involvement of a foreign number.
B Praak, known for chart-topping tracks such as Mann Bharrya, Teri Mitti, and Filhall, commands a massive fan following across India and abroad. While the singer has not issued a public statement yet, sources close to him say that security measures are being reviewed in light of the threat.
This incident once again highlights the growing vulnerability of high-profile artists to extortion and criminal intimidation. In recent years, several musicians and public figures in India have reported similar threats, prompting calls for stronger preventive mechanisms and faster digital surveillance.
Police officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the singer and his associates. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
