Prateek Kuhad To Make Acting Debut With Crime Thriller 'Drowning'

Singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad is set to make his feature film acting debut with Drowning (Doobna), an upcoming crime thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dar Gai. The film marks a new chapter in Kuhad's creative journey as he expands from music into acting.

Set against the backdrop of Delhi's independent music scene, Drowning follows the story of Tarush, an indie musician whose breakthrough success takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled with a powerful record label owner involved in the city's criminal underworld. Kuhad will play the lead role, bringing to screen a character whose world closely intersects with his own experiences as an independent artist.

The film is directed by Dar Gai and produced by Marginal MediaWorks in association with D36 and Jugaad Pictures. The project explores themes of ambition, artistic integrity, power and survival, using Delhi's evolving independent music ecosystem as the backdrop for its crime-driven narrative.

Known for acclaimed albums such as The Way That Lovers Do and songs including Kasoor and Co2, Kuhad has built an international following with his introspective songwriting. His transition to cinema marks the latest evolution in a career that has seen him become one of India's most recognised independent musicians.

Speaking about the project, Kuhad said the role felt like a natural extension of his artistic journey, allowing him to explore storytelling through a new medium while portraying a character rooted in the world of independent music.
