"Likes Don’t Define A Hit”: Shreya Ghoshal Champions Live Concert Impact

Veteran singer Shreya Ghoshal has shared her perspective on how true success is measured in music, pushing back against the increasing focus on social media metrics. In a recent interview, she told news agency ANI that real success for a song isn’t about accumulating likes or views online, metrics she described as “very skewed”, but about the connection it makes with audiences during live performances.

According to Ghoshal, a song’s lasting impact becomes evident when she performs it in concert and fans remember it, sing along and emotionally connect, even if they first heard it live at the show. “The success of a song is when I take that song to a concert, and people are singing it along,” she said, noting that digital numbers can be influenced or purchased, whereas genuine audience response onstage reflects a song’s true reach.

While she dismissed chasing social media figures, Ghoshal acknowledged that social platforms have reshaped how music travels today, citing examples of older songs trending years after release thanks to viral moments.

The singer is currently preparing for her upcoming Unstoppable Tour, which will take her performances across several cities in India and internationally.
