Legendary Playback Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away At 92, Ending An Era In Indian Music

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of the most iconic voices in Indian cinema, has passed away at the age of 92, marking the end of an extraordinary era in music.

According to reports, the veteran singer was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after suffering cardiac and respiratory complications. She had been unwell for the past few months and was taken to the ICU in critical condition on Saturday night. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed her passing on Sunday afternoon, with the family stating that the last rites will be held the following day.

Born in 1933 into the illustrious Mangeshkar family, Bhosle began her musical journey at a young age, recording her first song in the early 1940s. Over the decades, she emerged as one of the most versatile and prolific playback singers in Indian cinema, lending her voice to thousands of songs across genres and languages.

Often mentioned alongside her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar, Bhosle carved out a distinct identity with her ability to seamlessly transition between classical compositions, cabaret numbers, ghazals, and pop music. From the 1950s onward, she became a favourite among leading composers and remained a dominant force in Bollywood music for decades.

Her career, which spanned over eight decades, saw her record thousands of songs and earn numerous accolades, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan.
