KKR To Acquire Minority Stake In BookMyShow To Back Live Entertainment Growth

Global investment firm KKR has signed definitive agreements to acquire a minority stake in Indian entertainment and ticketing platform BookMyShow, as the company looks to accelerate the expansion of its live entertainment business. The financial details of the transaction have not been officially disclosed, and the deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Founded in 2007, BookMyShow is operated by Bigtree Entertainment and has grown from a movie-ticketing platform into a broader entertainment business spanning films, live events, concerts, sports and experiences. The company operates across more than 700 towns and cities in India, with its platform covering over 7,000 cinema screens.

KKR’s investment is expected to support BookMyShow’s next phase of growth, particularly its live entertainment operations. Through BookMyShow Live, the company operates across the live entertainment value chain, including talent and intellectual property acquisition, production, promotion, partnerships and audience development.

Over the years, BookMyShow Live has brought several major international acts and properties to India, including Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Guns N’ Roses and Post Malone, as well as events such as Lollapalooza India, U2’s The Joshua Tree Tour, the NBA’s debut games in India, Disney’s Aladdin and Cirque du Soleil BAZZAR.

According to people familiar with the transaction, KKR is expected to acquire around a 6% stake in BookMyShow for approximately $40 million-$50 million, implying a valuation of roughly $667 million-$833 million. The companies themselves have not disclosed these figures.

The investment comes at a time when India’s live entertainment sector is witnessing increased consumer demand and growing competition. Platforms including Walmart-backed Flipkart and Eternal’s District are also expanding their presence in the market, increasing the focus on live events and entertainment experiences.

KKR’s entry adds another major institutional investor to BookMyShow’s shareholder base, which includes Network18, part of Reliance Industries, Accel, Elevation Capital, Stripes Group and TPG.

The deal underscores the growing investor interest in India’s entertainment economy, with BookMyShow positioning its live entertainment business as a key driver of its future growth.
