Devraj Sanyal, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Group India & South Asia and SVP Strategy for AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa), has marked a significant milestone in his career, completing 15 years with Universal Music Group (UMG).

In a heartfelt message shared on LinkedIn, Sanyal reflected on his decade-and-a-half journey with the global music major, expressing gratitude to colleagues, artists, partners, stakeholders and family members who have been part of the company’s growth story across India, South Asia and the wider AMEA region.

“Fifteen years today at Universal Music Group x Universal Music India,” Sanyal wrote, describing the journey as one shaped not only by achievements and milestones, but by the people who stood together through successes, challenges and unexpected turns.

Looking back on the period, Sanyal acknowledged the highs and lows that have defined the music business, noting that moments of celebration and uncertainty alike contributed to what he called “an unforgettable decade and a half of building, learning, delivering and growing.”

The veteran music executive extended his thanks to UMG’s global leadership, fellow leaders across markets, artists, managers, collecting societies, brands, partners and digital platforms for their trust and collaboration over the years.

He also paid tribute to current and former colleagues across India, South Asia and the AMEA region, emphasizing that the company’s achievements have always been the result of a collective effort driven by passion, commitment and a shared vision.

In his message, Sanyal reserved special appreciation for his family, thanking them for their unwavering support through the demands of a career that has involved extensive travel, long hours and the challenges of leading one of the world’s largest music companies in a rapidly evolving market.

“I will be forever grateful to all of you,” he wrote, before adding, “Thank you for the support. Thank you for the partnership. Thank you for the friendship.”

Concluding the note on a reflective and optimistic tone, Sanyal stated that while the journey continues, the occasion was ultimately one of gratitude.

Under Sanyal’s leadership, Universal Music Group India has played a key role in expanding the company’s footprint across the region, strengthening artist development initiatives, forging strategic partnerships and contributing to the growth of India’s evolving music ecosystem.

His 15-year tenure coincides with a transformative period for the industry, marked by the rise of streaming, the increasing globalization of Indian music and the emergence of new opportunities for artists and rights holders.

As he celebrates the milestone, Sanyal’s message serves as both a reflection on the past and a reminder of the collaborative effort that has helped shape Universal Music Group’s journey in the region.
