Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh after the actor reportedly exited Don 3 just weeks before filming was scheduled to begin.

According to FWICE, the actor walked out of the project nearly three weeks before the crew was set to leave for an overseas shooting schedule. The complaint was reportedly filed by Excel Entertainment founders Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, who alleged that substantial investments had already been made in the film’s pre-production following Ranveer’s confirmation.

The film body stated that it had sent the actor three reminders over a 30-day period asking him to appear before the committee and present his side. However, according to FWICE, Ranveer did not respond personally, following which the organisation decided to impose the directive.

Reports suggest that Excel Entertainment is seeking damages worth Rs 45 crore, citing expenses incurred during the development and preparation stages of the film.

Ranveer’s team, meanwhile, has reportedly maintained that the matter falls outside the jurisdiction of FWICE. Industry observers, however, note that such non-cooperation directives are often used within the film ecosystem as a means to initiate discussions and negotiations between parties.

The development has once again brought attention to FWICE’s history of issuing bans and non-cooperation notices within the entertainment industry.

In previous years, the organisation had imposed restrictions on Pakistani artists working in India following periods of heightened political tension between India and Pakistan, including after the Uri attacks in 2016 and the Pahalgam terror incident in Jammu & Kashmir. Actors including Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan were among those affected by the directives.

More recently, Diljit Dosanjh faced a non-cooperation notice after appearing alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. Although the film did not release in India, FWICE urged its members not to collaborate with Diljit and also appealed to T-Series to remove him from Border 2. The singer-actor was later allowed to complete filming for the project after intervention from T-Series head Bhushan Kumar.

Singer Mika Singh also briefly faced a FWICE ban in 2019 after performing at a wedding in Karachi. The restriction was later revoked after the singer met the organisation and issued an apology.

The latest directive against Ranveer Singh could potentially impact upcoming projects, including his next film Pralay, which is expected to begin production later this year. With FWICE representing over five lakh workers and technicians, the non-cooperation notice could affect crew availability, production logistics and promotional activities linked to the actor’s future projects.
