Rapper and singer Badshah has landed in legal trouble after an FIR was registered against him in Haryana over his recently released Haryanvi song “Tateeree.”
The case was filed at the cybercrime police station in Panchkula following a complaint that the music video contains obscene lyrics and objectionable visuals that allegedly portray women in an inappropriate manner. The complaint claims that certain scenes and words used in the video could send a “wrong message to society,” particularly to younger audiences.
According to police officials, the FIR has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, along with Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with obscene acts and songs.
The controversy largely centres around scenes in the music video that reportedly show girls dressed in school uniforms in a setting resembling a classroom environment, referred to as “Badshala.” Complainants have argued that presenting such visuals in a school-like setting could negatively influence young viewers and promote disrespectful behaviour toward girls.
The issue has also drawn the attention of the Haryana State Commission for Women, which has summoned the rapper to appear before the panel on March 13 to explain the intent behind the song’s lyrics and visuals. The commission took cognisance of complaints alleging that the content is vulgar and offensive to women and children.
Local authorities and political leaders have also taken note of the matter, with officials stating that the video’s portrayal of schoolgirls and public spaces has raised concerns about cultural sensitivity and the misuse of public imagery.
The investigation is currently underway, and authorities have indicated that further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry and the rapper’s response to the allegations.
