The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is set to host a week-long international convention celebrating Indian classical music, culture, and heritage from May 25 to 31 as part of its Platinum Jubilee festivities.
Organised in collaboration with the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), the event will bring together over 1,500 students and more than 40 eminent artists, gurus, and scholars from India and abroad for immersive cultural exchange and learning.
The convention aims to create a vibrant platform where young minds can engage directly with stalwarts of Indian classical traditions, deepening their appreciation of the country’s artistic heritage. In the lead-up to the main event, a series of curtain-raiser programmes are being held on campus, featuring performances by renowned musicians such as Padma Vibhushan flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia and other distinguished classical artists.
IIT Kharagpur officials say the initiative underscores the institute’s commitment to integrating cultural understanding and creativity with academic pursuits, turning the campus into a dynamic confluence of music, scholarship, and cultural dialogue during the celebration week.
