Marking Earth Day 2026, a one-of-a-kind musical performance in the city is set to celebrate nature by transforming environmental elements into sound.
Titled Melodies in Slow Motion, the show by Soumik Datta blends live instrumentation with field recordings drawn from the natural world. The performance reinterprets everything from bird movements and insect rhythms to microscopic biological activity, creating what the creators describe as an immersive “ear cinema” experience.
Staged at the G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture, the concert brings together classical instruments like the sarod, tabla and violin with visuals inspired by nature, including artwork created by children.
The production aims to highlight the interconnectedness of ecosystems, from cicadas and honeybees to underground forest networks, while encouraging audiences to reflect on humanity’s role within the natural world.
By merging science, art and music, the performance offers a creative take on environmental awareness, positioning sound as a medium to better understand and connect with the planet.
