Yatin Srivastava’s Guitar Play Through for latest single Remembrance!

Yatin Srivastava Project is the solo project of New Delhi based musician Yatin Srivastava, which has taken huge steps in the past two years to get out there as a full blown Progressive Rock/Progressive Metal band in the Indian/United Kingdom independent music scene. After just having premiered the music video for his single ‘Take A Look at Me’, he’s on a roll with a new single titled ‘Remembrance’. [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljY7imcW5ms[/embedyt] The original single feat Kunal Singh and Aranya Sahay on Vocals, Archie Farrer on Bass and Rishabh Sanghi on Keys/Synth was released in October 2017 but we love how this version of Remembrance is heavier, harder and progressive than the melancholic vibe the single had earlier. Excerpts: Loudest: The lyrics reflect love/loss from a dystopian perspective which of course seems apt for the times we're living in now. Take us through the songwriting process for 'Remembrance' and what the lyrics mean to you on a more personal level? Yatin: The instrumental version of Remembrance was ready quite a long time back. I didn't know what I wanted for the vocals so I let the song sit. Once I revisited the song again, the melodic leanings surely influenced the lyrics that came out. Along with that, for the better or worse, I lost some people really close to me. For me, it's in a sense a memorial to their lives and the impact that they had on me.   Loudest: How did the collaboration come about? Did ya'll get together, jam and figure out the direction of the track or was it a more personal way of blending different grooves and styles to create a grand sound? Yatin: As mentioned earlier, the track was actually ready as is instrumentally for a long time. Once I wrote down the vocals, it became clear that it was a conversation between two people rather than a single monologue. I had worked with Kunal in the past with my debut EP and was starting to work with Aranya on the newer stuff, so the collaboration seemed more than appropriate. We did record the vocals together, which really helped the process as both of the singers played off each others vibe really easily. I also had the chance to play the song with my band at The Gig Week this year under Skyharbor and Arjun Mathur's drum work definitely influenced the final version of the drums that I programmed.   Loudest: We see a much heavier sound and some brilliant solos and riffs in this version. Proper Old school progressive vibe! Tell us more about that? Yatin: I have always been a fan of the riffs, if you can say that. The first EP was more about open riffs in the style of say Metallica and Porcupine Tree. This time around, the focus was more on single note based riffs in the style of say Periphery or Tesseract. I don't think that was intentional but it was something that just came out of me listening to a substantial amount of Progressive Metal. The solo was actually not supposed to be on there in the first draft. I just wanted that middle riff to shine but once I wrote a solo, I thought it was unfair to not put it on. I guess it's one of those that I'm quite proud of.   Loudest: What is the significance of 'Remembrance' in your personal journey as a musician so far? Yatin: Remembrance as a song to me at least signifies a bold mark in the sound of the project. It's something that I imagined for a long time and seeing it become reality is quite pleasing. It's a song that I can listen to over and over again and completely enjoy. With most of my songs, by the time I'm done with the whole recording, mixing and mastering process - I don't want to hear them again. But with this song, that's not the case. And well, Aranya and Kunal's vocal performance does make that easier. Did you have something like this in mind or was it more of a collaborative experience? Yatin: Saloni has basically done all the artworks for my material. Barring the second EP which featured a picture, she did the artwork for my debut EP and she is also doing the artwork for my upcoming full length. The way we work has always been very easy and creative. It was the same with this artwork. I sent her the song, the lyrics and a brief of what I imagined would like nice. She then took all that information in and created something that was completely beyond my comprehension. It's something she's been doing every single time she sends an artwork my way. Tell us how this happened? Yatin: The idea of the whole Project from the start was to create music that I wanted to create and collaborate with artists from all around the world. The collaboration with Craig was something I could never imagine though. I just thought I'd send him a mail along with some of the material and hope that maybe he'll reply. I expected that either he wouldn't or probably say no considering he's so busy. But he replied! And I can't wait for people to listen to what he's done with the tracks. It's a dream that I get to work with such an esteemed musician who's played with many bands that have inspired me in my musical journey.   Loudest: When can we expect the record to be put out and any plans of YSP to go on tour soon? Yatin: At this point in time, the songs have all been recorded and I'm neck deep in the mixing process. I like to take things one at a time personally, but I have a wonderful team behind me and a group of close friends that I trust with my work, to think about everything surrounding the release of it. But as of now, the main goal is to have a finished product. Once that is done, a tour would be more than welcome haha.
