Spotify Launches ChatGPT-Style AI Assistant for Personalised Music Discovery

Spotify is expanding its AI capabilities with the launch of a ChatGPT-style conversational assistant designed to make discovering music, podcasts and audiobooks more interactive and personalised.

The new feature allows Spotify Premium users to search for and control content using natural language through text or voice. Instead of relying on keywords or playlists, listeners can ask for recommendations based on mood, genre, activity or even request songs they haven't heard before.

Unlike Spotify's existing AI-powered discovery tools, the assistant can also draw on a user's listening history, favourite artists and playlists to deliver more personalised responses. Users can ask questions such as when they first listened to a particular song, explore their favourite genres, or seek more information about the music, podcasts or audiobooks they are enjoying.

The feature builds on Spotify's broader AI strategy, which already includes tools such as AI DJ and AI Playlist, further shifting the platform towards conversational music discovery. According to Spotify, the goal is to make the listening experience "more personal and useful" while giving users greater control over how they discover audio content.

The chatbot is currently rolling out in beta for Premium subscribers aged 18 and above in the US, Ireland and Sweden on both iOS and Android. Spotify said the feature remains under development and noted that AI-generated responses may not always be accurate.
