Artists Talk: Avitesh Shrivastava aka Avi On His Debut Single 'Main Hua Tera'.

Avitesh Srivastava, the elder son of late music director Aadesh Shrivastav, released his debut single 'Main Hua Tera' last week. Recently, international entertainment houses Ideal Entertainment and SM Entertainment signed up with Avi for managing his professional collaborations and marketing in the Caribbean, South America, North America, Asia and Europe. Loudest got in touch with Avi to know a bit more about his journey to #MHT.

How did your musical journey start?

My musical journey started at a very young age, when I was about 11 years old. I used to love being in the studio with my dad, learning about music production and trying my hand at composing and singing my own tracks. I remember performing for the first time in my life with Wyclef Jean at Hard Rock Cafe and realising how passionate I really was about music. After I performed with Akon in front of 30,000 people, I was even more convinced of my dream of becoming an artist.

Having also been associated with movies like Piku as an Assistant Director, I would like to explore the possibility of taking up acting sometime in the future. Right now, though, my focus is completely on my singing career.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience as a student in LA?

I studied at the Hollywood Academy in USA, where I gained a thorough understanding of music and enhanced my skills. Recently, during my trip to LA, I also participated in an acting workshop hosted by the New York Film Academy. These associations have played a critical role in my overall growth as an entertainment and performance artist.

How has growing up in a musical household been advantageous to you?

As a child, I was always surrounded by music. My dad, mom, Anivesh, and I loved to spend our time either singing, or talking about music, or learning from each other. Even my extended family, including my mamas (Jatin-Lalit), is closely involved with music. I feel extremely blessed to be born in and raised by this family of artists. That being said, my journey is very different from theirs. My vision is to be the youngest artist to represent India on a global platform.

You have already worked with huge artists like Akon. How important is it to collaborate with other artists in the music industry?
Collaborations are important in their own way. They provide a platform to unite different artists, create unique compositions, and recognise talent from all over the globe. I wish to bring more foreign artists to the country to explore musical collaborations and to give them a feel of Indian artists/music.
My own journey has been greatly influenced by musical collaborations. Several established international artists like French Montana, T Pain, Akon, and Sean Kingston saw the potential in me and chose to collaborate with me on their tracks. They believed that I could represent India internationally and become the youngest crossover artist from the country.

Being a young artist, how important is it to have the support of huge management companies like SME and Ideal Entertainment? How have they contributed to your growth musically?
Before my father’s demise, I had gone to Vegas for work where I met Sase from SM Entertainment. He heard my compositions and believed in my work. Mike and Sase from SM Entertainment signed me and later also brought Ideal Entertainment on board. Ideal Entertainment were also convinced that I had the potential of becoming a leading artist in the crossover music space in the US. They’ve been a great support system and have helped me kick-start my career.
