Bengaluru Metro Logs 12,000 Loud Music Violations, Urges Commuter Discipline

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro security personnel have recorded more than 27,000 instances of passenger misconduct on moving trains during non-peak hours in the past six months, according to a media release from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The violations—ranging from playing loud music to occupying priority seating—led to stern warnings being issued, though no fines were levied.

Routine security checks conducted between September 2024 and March 2025 revealed that playing loud music was the most common offense, with 11,922 cases reported. Another 14,162 incidents involved commuters failing to vacate priority seats reserved for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and passengers with infants.

Other infractions included 554 instances of eating on trains and 474 cases of carrying oversized luggage that obstructed movement inside coaches.While fines were not imposed, BMRCL’s Security Squad emphasized the importance of following metro rules to ensure a smooth and respectful commuting experience.

“We urge commuters to follow metro guidelines for a pleasant journey and to avoid actions that may lead to penalties in the future,” BMRCL said.
