Sagarika Music Launches Coffee House Originals To Champion Original Music And Artist Collaborations

Independent music label Sagarika Music has unveiled Coffee House Originals, a new original music platform designed to bring together celebrated musicians and emerging artists through collaborative, language-agnostic storytelling.

The launch marks a new chapter for the label, which has spent nearly three decades building a reputation for artist-first development and nurturing independent talent across regional and non-film music.

Founded in 1984 by Hirak Das as one of India's earliest cassette and CD manufacturing companies, Sagarika Music later evolved into a record label under the leadership of Sagarika Das. Over the years, the label has played a significant role in shaping India's independent music landscape, particularly in Marathi, Bengali and Hindi music.

In Marathi music, Sagarika helped redefine the genre by introducing a contemporary sound through hits such as Aika Dajiba, Radha Hi Bavari, Galavar Khali and Meri Madhubala. The label also launched and nurtured artists including Vaishali Samant, Swapnil Bandodkar and Avadhoot Gupte, while releasing Ajay-Atul's debut album Sang Ho Tum and one of their earliest Marathi film soundtracks, Agga Bai Arrechya.

The company was also among the pioneers of Bengali non-film music, building a catalogue of over 5,000 tracks and introducing more than 25 artists at a time when the market had limited independent labels. Beyond regional music, Sagarika established itself in India's non-film Hindi music movement during the remix era with releases such as Sajna Hai Mujhe, Dilbar Dil Se, Jawan Hai Mohabbat and the Indi-pop favourite Mera Dadla. Its catalogue also features recordings by legendary maestros including Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pandit Ajay Chakrabarty.

Speaking about the new initiative, Sagarika Das, Managing Director of Sagarika Music, said, "For us, music has always been about artists first. Every artist we've worked with has become a part of our journey and those relationships have shaped who we are today. Coffee House Originals is our way of carrying that philosophy forward by creating a space where artists can collaborate freely, exchange ideas and make music without the pressure of fitting into a trend."

Inspired by the conversations and creativity that unfold over coffee, Coffee House Originals has been conceived as a creative meeting point where artists collaborate across genres, generations and languages. The inaugural season will feature 10 original songs and 10 music videos filmed across India, combining music, travel, culture and dance into a unified storytelling experience.

The platform will showcase original music in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese, with the first releases featuring long-time Sagarika collaborators Vaishali Samant and Swapnil Bandodkar. The line-up also includes Vijay Prakash, Rahul Deshpande, Priyanka Barve, Bela Shende, alongside emerging artists Anaya Wadkar, Vikram Bam, Sanchari Bandyopadhyay, Rakesh Riyan and Parashmita Nath.

Looking ahead, the platform will expand beyond digital releases through live performances, artist showcases and community-led experiences aimed at bringing audiences closer to the creative process.

Reflecting on the label's journey, Das added, "After 28 years, we are not reinventing ourselves. We are building on everything that has defined Sagarika Music from the very beginning. Coffee House Originals is our way of celebrating India's incredible musical diversity while creating opportunities for artists across generations and languages to come together. We hope audiences discover music here that feels honest, timeless and deeply rooted in creativity."

With Coffee House Originals, Sagarika Music is extending its legacy into a new era,one focused on original music, meaningful collaborations and giving artists the creative freedom to tell authentic stories beyond trends and algorithms.
