Subhalakshmi Borooah Khan Makes Vocal Debut With ‘Chants For Unity’

Subhalakshmi Borooah Khan is making her vocal debut with Chants for Unity, an album that brings together sacred music, Indian classical traditions and a message of peace and unity.

The nine-track album features her vocals on five sacred compositions , Navagraha Shlokam, Krishna Stuti, Shantakaram, Ya Devi Sarvabhooteshu and Lakshmi Stuti. The project brings together three generations of the celebrated sarod tradition, with Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan and sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash contributing to its musical conception and composition.

For Subhalakshmi, the album marks a new chapter in her artistic journey, bringing a personal and soulful quality to the timeless compositions.

“This vocal journey has been deeply personal for me. To be able to lend my voice to these sacred compositions and be part of an album that carries such a beautiful message of unity is truly special,” Subhalakshmi Borooah Khan said.

Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan said he was particularly delighted to see his wife make her vocal debut, adding that her voice brings an intimate dimension to the sacred chants.

Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash also described their mother's vocal debut as an intimate addition to the project, saying the album celebrates “devotion, love and the belief that music can transcend every boundary.”

At its core, Chants for Unity brings together the meditative sound of the sarod with sacred chants and the human voice. The album aims to move beyond individual faiths and traditions, using music as a universal language of peace, connection and harmony.
