Marking World Music Day 2026, acclaimed playback singer and independent music advocate Sonu Nigam has unveiled I Believe Your Music (IBYM), a new initiative aimed at identifying, mentoring and empowering emerging music creators from India and across the globe.
The platform seeks to provide aspiring artists with access to mentorship, industry expertise, marketing support and distribution opportunities, creating a structured pathway for independent musicians looking to build sustainable careers in music.
The initiative expands on Sonu Nigam’s independent music label of the same name, which was launched in 2020 to champion original music and creative collaborations. With IBYM, the singer is broadening that vision by establishing a dedicated ecosystem for singers, composers, lyricists, producers and instrumentalists.
Announcing the initiative, Nigam said the idea stems from his own journey in the music industry and the importance of having people who believed in his talent during the early stages of his career.
“When I started my journey, someone believed in me and trusted my talent and vision. That belief changed my life. Today, I want to become that believer for aspiring artists. We are living in a golden age of independent music, and through I Believe Your Music, I want to help creators bring their authentic voices and stories to the world,” he said.
Selected artists will receive creative guidance, professional feedback, audience-development support, release planning assistance and worldwide digital distribution. The programme will also create opportunities for collaboration with established music professionals, while exceptional projects may receive direct involvement from Sonu Nigam himself.
A key component of the initiative is its partnership with Global Music Junction (GMJ), which will serve as the platform’s creative, promotional and distribution partner. The collaboration aims to combine artist development expertise with global marketing and distribution capabilities to help independent creators reach wider audiences.
According to the organisers, one of the distinguishing features of IBYM is Sonu Nigam’s personal participation in the talent discovery process. Music submissions will be reviewed by the singer and his team, ensuring artists receive direct consideration and meaningful feedback.
The initiative will also be powered by a technology-driven platform that enables creators to track their submissions through personalised dashboards, offering transparency and real-time updates throughout the evaluation process.
Positioned as a movement rather than a competition, IBYM aims to move beyond metrics such as follower counts and viral trends, focusing instead on originality, creativity and long-term artistic development.
With the launch of I Believe Your Music, Sonu Nigam is reinforcing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of independent musicians and contributing to the continued growth of the global independent music ecosystem.
