Kalki Koechlin’s French Film ‘Her Song’ Enters Oscars 2027 Race

Actor Kalki Koechlin is set for another international milestone as her French-language film ‘Her Song’ officially enters the race for the 2027 Academy Awards.

Directed by John M. Keller, the film follows Olivia, an American writer who travels to her ancestral village in southern France to write about her grandmother. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she develops a friendship with a local artist, blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality.

‘Her Song’ marks Koechlin’s first French-language project. Despite her French heritage, the actor has never lived in France and prepared for the role by speaking French while also adopting an American accent for her character.

The film opened the Cinequest Film Festival and has received positive responses for its storytelling and Koechlin’s performance. It is scheduled for theatrical screenings in Los Angeles from October 16–22, followed by New York from November 6–12.

Speaking about the film’s Oscar journey, Koechlin said, “Her Song has been such a wonderful journey for me, and I’m excited to see where it takes us next.”

With ‘Her Song’, Koechlin continues to expand her international body of work, taking on projects across languages, genres and global cinema.
