The world is so unpredictable and dynamic and there is no one pattern to success-Mithoon

Described by many as India’s most reclusive and multifaceted music composer and songwriter, Mithoon is the acclaimed visionary behind some of the most lilting and haunting melodies in recent times. A man of very few words whose music is often described as emotive and soul stirring, is known to have launched the careers of some of the biggest names in the Indian music industry. He’s probably the only music composer in the Indian music industry who also pens his own songs making him an ideal songwriter.

In 2012, Mithoon’s super hit track, ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from the movie ‘Aashiqui 2’ set a new benchmark at the box office and went on to win awards in almost all the categories it was nominated for that year. The song was also nominated at the MTV European Music Awards.

Born into a family of musicians, Mithoon always showcased his family lineage in his award-winning work through the philosophy of experimentation and authenticity. He began his career as a composer in 2006 at a raw age of 19 years with the movie ‘Bas Ek Pal’.

‘Shamshera’ marks his first association with YRF and he has reinvented himself with a new sound in the songs and a pulsating background score.In a freewheeling chat with loudest Mithoon talks about his musical journey.

Q1.Hello,Tell us about your musical journey?

I started learning music at the age of 11 and would say till 15, I had a balanced life where music was part of my regular routine along with academics because my mother was very keen that I pursue my schooling diligently. It was only after that I decided to take up music as a full-time career. There was a fire smouldering inside me to prove myself as a musician and I would rehearse for eight long hours everyday. By 18, I was my father’s chief assistant and at 19, I did my first filmZeher. So studies eventually took a back seat because of my passion for music.

Q3.Who inspired you to be in this profession? Who is your biggest inspiration currently from the music industry?

I grew up in a family of musicians. The greatest heroes were within my family itself. My grandfather Pt Ramprasad Sharma, my uncle, Pyarelalji [of Laxmikant Pyarelal fame], my father Naresh Sharma and Madan Mohan saab influenced me a lot. Western greats such as Miles Davis, Chick Correa and the score writing of John Williams also had an impact on me.  From the music industry I also like the works of Madan Mohan ji, AR Rahman ji among others.

Q4.What advice do you have for people entering this field now?

I honestly don’t have any advice. People have to carve their own path. The world is so unpredictable and dynamic and there is no one pattern to success.

Q5.Tell us about your upcoming projects?

I am working on a flim by actress/director Revathy where im doing all the songs and also the background score. Gadar 2 will also be up for release soon.
