‘The Last Mughal’ Musical Production Concludes Sold-Out Show At Red Fort

A literary-musical production of The Last Mughal concluded to a packed house at Red Fort on May 3, marking a notable cultural moment in the capital. The show, attended by over 750 guests, was completely sold out, underlining a growing appetite for immersive, high-quality cultural experiences.

Inspired by William Dalrymple’s acclaimed book The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi, 1857, the production blended historical storytelling with live music. Dalrymple himself delivered readings from the text, accompanied by evocative musical performances from Vidya Shah, creating a layered narrative experience for the audience.

Set within the historic Red Fort, central to the events of 1857, the production offered a rare convergence of location, literature, and music. The carefully curated format transported attendees into the cultural and political landscape of late Mughal India, earning praise for its authenticity and artistic depth.

Reflecting on the experience, Dalrymple described the performance as a rare opportunity, noting the significance of presenting the story at the very site where history unfolded, in front of an engaged Delhi audience.

The event was presented under Carvaan Luxe by Saregama India. Siddharth Anand Kumar, Executive Vice President – Films, Series and Events at the company, said the response reinforces the platform’s vision of curating premium cultural experiences for discerning audiences, adding that more such events are in the pipeline.

The showcase was supported by partners including Sabhyata Foundation, Dalmia Bharat Group, Aadhyam Handwoven, HDFC, and Homage.

Following the success of the Delhi performance, organisers have confirmed plans to expand the production with additional shows and a broader lineup of curated events, with new dates expected to be announced soon.
