SYNTHESIS – The Indian Muse Wins Silver Medal Honour At The Global Music Awards
By Noor Anand Chawla It takes immense passion and perseverance to pursue one’s dream despite all odds. When the remotely-produced multi-artist single helmed by Nanni Singh and her team at ShowCase Events - ‘Synthesis – The Indian Muse’ - released on August 15 last year, it certainly defied the odds. The song brought together 16 artists across genres and art forms; was compiled entirely remotely and yet came off as a memorable, cohesive tune that stayed with the listener long after being heard. By sheer force of will and a strong sense of artistic solidarity, the team pulled it off. The song received tremendous love from listeners, music industry stalwarts and the press alike, and even earned the title of ‘Song of the Year’. And now it has gone and achieved the near impossible. Synthesis – The Indian Muse has just been honoured with the Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Fusion category by the esteemed jury of the Global Music Awards or GMA. The website describes the GMA as, “A top-tier international music competition that honours talented musicians around the world. It is a showcase for musical gems and unique voices. Global Music Awards is the music industry’s golden seal of approval, a stamp of credibility for gifted musicians.” With a large number of entries for consideration every year, the honour is indeed a noteworthy one. Judging standards are high, giving due credit to the outstanding craft and creativity of the musical entry. Winning numbers are listed on the Global Music Awards website at globalmusicawards.com, and receive tremendous exposure with a discerning audience around the world. Nanni Singh says, “I’m at a loss for words! What a huge honour this is! All that hard work and the wonderful effort put in by everyone really paid off. This was an incredible display of team work by some of the best artists of India, and I’m so glad we’re leaving behind a legacy that will go down in history.” Her sentiments are echoed by other artists who were part of the ensemble. Music Composer Ravi Iyer says, “I am delighted and truly grateful for this win.” Violinist and Vocalist Sunita Bhuyan shares, “It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of Synthesis. I wouldn’t have been able to make it to the song for some personal challenges if not for Nanni Singh’s continuous persistence. And I am so happy that this virtual production has not only been embraced by lakhs of viewers but has won the GMA! What an honour.” Thumri singer Dhanashree Pandit- Rai exclaims, “This surprise win has rung in 2022 with a new verve for me. I’m elated! Congratulations to Nanni and Ravi in particular, the entire ShowCase events team and all the participants.” Nazir Ganaie, Kashmir-based Journalist and Rabab player says, “The GMA is a great recognition of the efforts of Nanni Singh and the team, especially artists from the length and breadth of Indian states. When we started recording this musical marvel, it gave each one of us a different and unique feeling. I was playing along with a few of the known faces of India’s music industry. The journey was really soulful. Sharing notes with artists from different states and cultures enriched the overall musical chord. This song is special because it was made when the whole world was grappling with the Covid-19 scare and we used virtual modes to connect with each other, musically. The award has initiated a humble beginning that will connect us all for something bigger in the future. I thank the jury and the team behind it.” He is echoed by Sufi singer Sonam Kalra, who says, “So special to have lent my voice to this song created by the incredible Nanni Singh. So proud of her for pursuing her ‘passion project’ as she called it, for bringing so many artists together during these very difficult times and for making it happen in record time. Hard work never goes to waste and this award is proof of that!” Vocalist Anushree Gupta adds, “I am humbled and honoured. Glad to have sung this beautiful composition. My gratitude to ShowCase Events and Nanni Singh for making me a part of this and love to the entire music team of Synthesis.” Bharatanatyam dancer Sohini Roychowdhury sums it up, “Love stories, like gypsies, travel from place to place, heart to heart. Our Synthesis song is such a love story. In the times of Covid-19, of empathy and coming together of a variety of artistes in harmony and entirety…it feels wonderful that our heart song has won this accolade and brought our Synthesis family even closer.” Synthesis – the Indian Muse is streaming on all major platforms including YouTube, Spotify,Amazon Music, Apple Music and others.
