Subhash Ghai And Mithoon To Reimagine Iconic Film Music At ‘Kya Zamaana Tha’ Concert

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai and composer Mithoon are coming together to bring some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic soundtracks to the live stage with ‘Kya Zamaana Tha: Subhash Ghai’s Musical Legacy Reimagined by Mithoon’.

The concert, presented by Mukta Arts and EVA Live and powered by Mastercard, will take place at Jio World Garden, Mumbai, on December 11, 2026. The show will feature music from Ghai’s films including Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Pardes, Taal and Yaadein.

The production will feature a 70-member orchestra, contemporary arrangements and large-scale live production, bringing Ghai’s musical catalogue to audiences through a modern concert format.

The event will also bring together singers, actors and personalities associated with Ghai’s films, with performances complemented by conversations and behind-the-scenes stories around the making of the films and their music.

Speaking about the concert, Ghai said music has always been central to his storytelling and that the event is about celebrating work that continues to resonate with audiences.

For Mithoon, the project carries a personal connection to the catalogue. His father, Naresh Sharma, was an arranger and conductor, while his uncle Pyarelal, of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, composed several of the soundtracks associated with Ghai’s films. Mithoon said the project will combine the emotional character of the original music with contemporary live arrangements.

The concert takes its name from the opening line of ‘Ek Haseena Thi’ from Karz, connecting the live production directly to Ghai’s cinematic musical legacy.

The project is also being positioned as a large-format live entertainment IP, bringing a legacy Hindi film catalogue into the contemporary concert ecosystem.

Tickets will be available exclusively through District by Zomato. The Mastercard pre-sale is scheduled to begin on October 3, with general sales opening on October 10.
