Zubeen Divas: Assam Remembers Zubeen Garg With Music, Tributes And Acts Of Service

Assam is marking the first death anniversary of singer-composer Zubeen Garg with tributes that go beyond music, bringing together cultural programmes, community service and acts of remembrance across the state.

As part of Zubeen Divas, around 2,500 students at Noonmati Jatiya Vidyalaya in Guwahati came together to sing Garg’s iconic Ghuri Aaha. Elsewhere, communities have organised blood donation camps, tree plantation drives and cultural tributes in his memory.

In Lanka’s Kaki, a newly constructed home was dedicated in Garg’s memory for a homeless elderly woman. In Barpeta, a bust of the singer was unveiled alongside those of Bishnu Rabha and Ambikagiri Raichoudhury, while Hojai witnessed a tribute featuring composer Joy Barua and the planting of 53 Nahor saplings.

The remembrance has also extended beyond Assam. In New Delhi, the Assamese community organised a tree-planting programme at Assam House, followed by cultural performances and tributes by students and community organisations.

The three-day Zubeen Divas programme, being observed from September 17–19, has seen fans gather at Zubeen Khetra in Sonapur, with music, prayers and cultural performances forming the centre of the commemorations.

For Assam, the tributes reflect the enduring place Garg holds in its cultural landscape, with his music continuing to bring people together across generations, communities and geographies.
