Tala Root Records, the newly launched sub-label of Femme Music focused on jazz and classical genres, has signed acclaimed Carnatic violinist Jyotsna Srikanth’s project, Jyotsna Carnatic Jazz Trio, for a multi-release deal.
The first release under the partnership is a reissue of Jyotsna’s 2015 EP, Bangalore Dreams, which dropped on April 10. The live trio, which evolved from the original EP, is also set to release new music on the label in the coming months, alongside an active touring schedule.
Known for seamlessly blending Carnatic and Western classical traditions, Jyotsna brings a distinctive musical approach that bridges raga-based frameworks with jazz improvisation and cross-cultural influences. Over the years, she has collaborated with leading artists across genres, establishing a strong presence on the global music circuit.
For Femme Music co-founders Sanoli Chowdhary and Vinod Gadher, the association reflects the label’s vision of supporting both emerging and established women artists. Gadher noted that Jyotsna’s depth of experience and international perspective make her a natural fit for Tala Root Records.
Now based in Bengaluru, Jyotsna is looking to strengthen her connection with Indian audiences through this new phase. Bangalore Dreams captures the spirit of the city through a fusion of evocative ragas and jazz sensibilities, blending Indian classical elements with contemporary improvisation.
The EP features longtime collaborator Shadrach Solomon on keys, alongside percussionist N. Amruth, with additional layers of bass, synth, and drums enriching its sonic palette.
Bangalore Dreams is now available across streaming platforms, with the Jyotsna Carnatic Jazz Trio set to promote the release through live performances, including a show in Bengaluru on May 2 at The Humming Tree.
