Sunita Kaur Appointed President, Asia At Universal Music Publishing Group

Former Spotify and Facebook executive Sunita Kaur will lead UMPG's growth strategy across Asia, overseeing publishing operations in one of the world's fastest-growing music markets.

Sunita Kaur has been appointed President, Asia at Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), marking a significant leadership move for the company as it continues to expand its presence across the region.

The appointment was announced by Jody Gerson, Chairman and CEO of UMPG, to whom Kaur will report directly.

Based in Singapore, Kaur will oversee UMPG's operations across Asia, with a mandate to drive long-term growth, strengthen the company's presence in key markets, and support the development of a more connected and inclusive music publishing ecosystem. Her role will also focus on empowering songwriters and artists by expanding opportunities, partnerships and protections across the region.

Commenting on her appointment, Kaur said she was excited to join UMPG at a time when both the company and Asia's music industry are experiencing significant momentum.

"Having worked across both music and technology throughout my career, joining UMPG feels like a natural and exciting next chapter as those worlds continue to come together in new and powerful ways," she said. "Asia is at a defining moment for the global music ecosystem, and I look forward to working with our teams across the region to drive the next phase of growth and opportunity for songwriters."

Announcing the appointment, Gerson described Asia as one of the most important regions for the future of music publishing and praised Kaur's extensive leadership experience across music, technology and media.

Kaur joins UMPG with a distinguished career spanning more than two decades across some of the world's leading technology and media companies. She spent nearly seven years at Spotify, where she held several senior leadership positions, including Vice President, Revenue, Asia Pacific, overseeing regional revenue strategy and commercial partnerships. She also served as Managing Director, Southeast Asia, playing a key role in Spotify's early expansion and market launches across the region.

Prior to Spotify, Kaur held senior leadership roles at Facebook, where she served as Director, Asia, and at Microsoft, where she managed regional accounts and business development initiatives. Her career also includes leadership positions at Forbes, Singapore Press Holdings and Time Inc., giving her deep expertise across media, advertising, digital platforms and commercial strategy.

Her appointment comes as music publishing companies increasingly focus on Asia's rapidly expanding creator economy, streaming growth and intellectual property opportunities, positioning the region as a key driver of future industry growth.
