Rohin Thampi has announced his return to help build District by Zomato in the UAE, marking a new chapter in his professional journey after spending seven years associated with Zomato and related ventures.
In a LinkedIn post, Thampi reflected on his earlier years at Zomato, describing the experience as foundational to both his personal and professional growth. “Seven years at Zomato didn’t just shape my career, I grew up there,” he wrote, while highlighting lessons around resilience, teamwork, execution, and building meaningful products.
Thampi also shared that after working across multiple organisations over the years, he is now returning “where it all really began” to focus on expanding District in the UAE market. He noted that the move comes with “hard-learned lessons, deeper conviction, a fresh perspective, and a clear mission.”
The announcement signals continued momentum for District by Zomato, the company’s going-out and experiences-focused platform, as it explores opportunities beyond India. The UAE has increasingly emerged as a strategic market for consumer-tech and lifestyle brands looking to tap into a digitally engaged urban audience and a thriving hospitality ecosystem.
Industry observers say the move also reflects a broader trend of experienced startup operators returning to familiar ecosystems to lead expansion initiatives, particularly in high-growth international markets such as the Middle East.
Zomato has been steadily diversifying its presence across dining, experiences, and lifestyle-led consumer offerings, with District positioned as part of its larger ambition in the out-of-home entertainment and discovery space.
