“Her Contribution To Indian Music Will Remain Memorable,” Says PM Modi On Lata Mangeshkar Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary on September 28, remembering her immense contribution to Indian music and her role in taking the country’s musical legacy to audiences worldwide.

In a post on X, Modi described Mangeshkar’s singing talent as instrumental in bringing global recognition to India’s musical heritage. He also highlighted her efforts to support initiatives linked to the country’s development.

“On this, her birth anniversary, I pay my humble respects to the revered Lata Didi, who illuminated the name of our nation across the world with her divine singing talent,” Modi wrote. He added that her “unparalleled contribution” to Indian music would remain memorable for generations.

Poonam Dhillon remembers Lata Mangeshkar

Actor Poonam Dhillon also recalled Mangeshkar’s lasting association with Hindi cinema while attending Surila Safar-30: An Evening of Bollywood Melodies in Chandigarh.

Speaking to IANS, Dhillon said Mangeshkar’s voice featured in almost all the films she had worked in during her career. She described the singer as an integral part of Hindi film music and said her contribution would continue to be remembered.

Born on September 28, 1929, Mangeshkar became one of the most recognised voices in Indian cinema, with a career spanning several decades and multiple Indian languages. Her recordings continued to reach audiences through successive changes in music consumption, from physical formats to digital platforms.

Mangeshkar passed away in February 2022 at the age of 92. Four years after her death, her songs continue to remain part of India's musical and cultural landscape, with tributes on her birth anniversary once again bringing her enduring legacy into focus.
