Playback singer and composer Madhubanti Bagchi is set to take her music beyond film soundtracks with her debut national tour, titled This Is Who We Are. Through the multi-city concert series, the singer aims to introduce audiences to her musical influences, original compositions and versatility beyond playback singing.
Known for popular tracks such as Aaj Ki Raat from Stree 2, Shararat and Ishq Hai, Madhubanti sees the tour as an opportunity to establish a more direct connection with listeners and present a wider picture of her musical identity.
Speaking about the idea behind the tour, she said live performances offer a more personal connection with audiences, allowing artists to experience their reactions in real time. She also hopes to build a community of listeners who connect with her music and creative approach.
The singer believes that while Bollywood songs have helped her reach a wider audience, they do not necessarily represent the full range of her musical interests. With a background spanning Hindustani classical music, rock and contemporary genres, she wants the tour to bridge the gap between the voice audiences recognise and the artist behind it.
The performances will feature reworked arrangements of familiar tracks, alongside original compositions and new music. The production will also incorporate visual elements, including stage design, costumes, lighting and LED displays, to create a larger live experience.
Madhubanti also highlighted the role of classical training in shaping her approach to contemporary music. According to her, classical music provides singers with the technical foundation and vocal control to explore different genres rather than restricting their musical expression.
The tour also carries a personal significance for the singer. She spoke about her family's encouragement towards music and her desire to fulfil her late grandfather's dream of having a professional musician in the family.
Beyond playback singing, composition remains an important part of her upcoming musical journey. Madhubanti revealed that she has been working on several original tracks that are expected to be released after the tour. One of her recent compositions, Kaise Hum, is a deeply personal song dedicated to her cat, which passed away two years ago.
The tour will also incorporate regional musical influences from the cities it visits, with the singer hinting at special arrangements and surprises for different audiences.
Produced and promoted by Perfect Harmony Productions, This Is Who We Are will travel across eight announced cities: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Sambhajinagar, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. The tour will begin in Hyderabad on November 14, 2026, and continue into February 2027, with the Mumbai show scheduled for February 13.
With the tour, Madhubanti is looking to build on the recognition she has received through film music while creating space for her independent musical identity, original compositions and live performances.
