Jashn-e-Qawwali 5.0 Brings 800+ Music Lovers Together For Vulnerable Elders

More than 800 music lovers, supporters and beneficiaries gathered at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, as Delhi-based NGO Wishes and Blessings hosted the fifth edition of its annual fundraising concert, Jashn-e-Qawwali, on Saturday.
The event brought together qawwali and philanthropy, with proceeds supporting the organisation’s initiative to acquire land and build a permanent home for vulnerable elders at Mann Ka Tilak, its old-age home.
The evening featured a performance by renowned Sufi and Qawwali artist Kabul Bukhari & Troupe, who led the audience through popular renditions including “Saddagi,” “Afreen Afreen,” “Halka Halka Saroor,” “Kali Kali Zulfon Ke” and “Kehna Ghalat Ghalat.”
The performance saw audiences singing along, clapping and dancing, with repeated calls of “once more” extending the mehfil. The response continued the concert’s growing reputation for its interactive, celebratory take on qawwali, described by the organisers as “Dancing Qawwali.”
The residents of Mann Ka Tilak were also among the special guests at the event. Since 2018, the home has provided shelter, care and companionship to elderly people facing neglect, abandonment and abuse. Currently operating from rented premises, the organisation is working towards establishing a permanent, self-owned facility.
Dr. Geetanjali Chopra, Founder, Wishes and Blessings, said, “It is truly heart-warming to see how Jashn-e-Qawwali, which began as a small organisation initiative, has grown into such a grand celebration. But what is even more special is to witness people from all walks of life come together for our elders.”
She added that seeing society come together to ensure vulnerable elders receive care, protection and dignity is what makes the success of Jashn-e-Qawwali meaningful.
The fifth edition of Jashn-e-Qawwali combined live music, audience participation and philanthropy, using the traditional qawwali format to raise support for the organisation’s long-term vision for vulnerable elders.
