Celebrated guitarist-composer Ehsaan Noorani, one-third of the iconic trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, is set to headline a special Open House session titled “Creativity in Composition: Beyond Chords and Scales” on March 5, 2026, at Bay Owl Studios, Khar, housed within the Abbey Road Institute, Mumbai.
Scheduled from 5 pm to 8 pm, the immersive session promises an in-depth exploration of the creative process behind composing music, moving beyond conventional frameworks of harmony and theory.
Composition as Emotion and Narrative
According to the session outline, Noorani will unpack how emotion, mood, narrative, texture, rhythm, and space function as core drivers in shaping musical ideas. Rather than focusing solely on technical constructs, the discussion aims to illuminate composition as an instinctive and expressive craft.
Participants can expect insights into alternative starting points for songwriting and scoring, whether it’s a motif, a particular sound, silence, or even imagery. The conversation will also examine the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity in crafting compelling music.
A Rare Insight Into a Master Composer’s Process
With a career spanning decades in film, independent music, and live performance, Noorani has been instrumental in shaping contemporary Indian soundscapes across genres. As part of Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, he has composed for some of Hindi cinema’s most influential soundtracks, blending rock, classical, electronic, and global influences.
The Open House format is expected to encourage interaction, making it an engaging opportunity for aspiring composers, music students, producers, and industry professionals to gain firsthand insight into Noorani’s creative philosophy.
