BUDx Electronic Music Lab | Lowdown on Day 1
Loudest gives you the lowdown of DAY 1 of BUDx Electronic Music Lab! BUDx Electronic Music Lab is literally what everyone has been talking about considering this is the first of its kind music workshop series about the global electronic music phenomenon. Curated and created in collaboration between Boiler Room and Budweiser Experiences, the 3 day music conference features workshops, talks, masterclasses and live DJ performances in New Delhi. Watch snippets of BUDx DAY 1 The first ever BUDx started off with a bang when music makers, curators and enthusiasts from all corners of the country gathered on the 6th December at the Dhanmill Compound, Chattarpur, New Delhi to be a part of the Curated showcases, first-time live performances, technical masterclasses; in-depth conversations. [caption id="attachment_2679" align="alignnone" width="300"] Networking over a Bud![/caption] Mixer Session: The setup itself is monstrous, with 3 different ‘zones’ for live performances, talks and panel discussions and screenings and was kicked off with a mixer session where people attending could meet and connect with  labels, artists, managers and other industry professionals.   Performance and Talk by Boxout Sound System:  The dynamic crew of Boxout.fm - Dualist Inquiry aka Sahaj Bakshi, DJ Mo City and Rohan Kale played a tight set and then went on to talk about the community of Boxout.fm and how it has played a very important role in bringing homegrown artists to the fore. The boxout crew discuss the internet radio phenomenon and how they solely focus on the music and beats being created and that money isn’t their sole motivation. In addition to being a community run platform, their revenue model consists of hosting weekly and monthly residencies at clubs and cultural spaces around the country and also have their own fanzine - ThePlug.News which is currently distributed at 25 outlets across India.   Panel Discussion | How To Build a Global Brand: The panel consisted of Tej Brar - former Head of Artist Management - OML and now Founder of Third Culture, Rishabh Joshi who is one half of the duo - Lost Stories & Karanvir Singh aka Kerano with the session being moderated by Ali Sachedina, Saavn’s General Counsel and Vice President of Business Affairs. Watch Day 1 Panel Discussion | How To Build a Global Brand The panel discussed industry related issues and how to make sure your music/brand should be top notch and only then can you foray into the global market. What really stuck with us was their discussion on artists having to go through the grind and doing things for themselves.
“Younger artists these days want to be hand held and want things done for them from beginning to end. I’ve met so many artists who tell me that they’d make it big IF they had a manager which is strange because you only need a Manager when there’s a lot going on and you feel you can’t manage things on your own.” Said Tej during the panel discussion.
It’s a given that NOW is the time to make it big in the Electronic and Dance Music scene but the industry doesn’t churn out too many artists and DJ’s who truly have a global following and concert tours. So, now is the time for music makers and creators to up the ante and get with the program!   Origin Stories | Arjun Vagale  In discussion with the iconic Arjun Vagale was Kenneth Lobo, Author at Rolling Stones India who takes the audience through Arjun’s vast body of work, influences and instances from his childhood up until now. Watch Origin Stories | Arjun Vagale    Live Performances The sick line-up which had us raging all night was even more mind blowing with the crazy visuals and sound system inside the warehouse. Shout out to the folks at Budweiser, Homegrown and Boiler Room to make this one of the best live acts to witness. Check out the live electronic music sets on DAY 1: Chabb | BUDx  Sid Vashi | BUDx Inga Mauer | BUDx Arjun Vagale | BUDx Day 1 was definitely WAY beyond our expectations and to be honest, this is what the industry lacks here - a proper system, a community of creators, music business professionals and artists who come together to talk about challenges and guide them to make it in the Indian Independent Music Industry. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for BUDx DAY 2.
