Zee Entertainment Sues Nykaa Over Copyrighted Music Use In Instagram Ads

Zee Entertainment Enterprises has filed a lawsuit against Nykaa, accusing the beauty and fashion platform of using its copyrighted music without authorisation in promotional Instagram content, according to reports.

The broadcaster has sought damages of $210,000 (around Rs 1.99 crore), alleging that Nykaa used its songs in branded reels to market products to its audience.

The case was filed before the Delhi High Court on April 3. Zee stated that while it has a licensing agreement with Meta Platforms allowing individuals to use its music on Instagram for non-commercial purposes, this does not cover brand-led promotions.

According to the filing, Nykaa allegedly used multiple Zee-owned tracks in commercial reels, thereby violating copyright norms.

Nykaa’s legal counsel informed the court that the 12 links flagged in the complaint have since been taken down.

The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on May 26.
