Jio Studios’ Marathi film Me Vasantrao, based on famed classical singer Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande has been selected for the International competition segment at the prestigious 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The film is one of the only two Indian films selected to compete alongside international films and will be screened on 23rd November during the festival in Goa.
Produced by Shekhar Gokhale, Darshan Desai, Niranjan Kirloskar written and directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari, the film is a biopic on Maharashtra's finest legendary Hindustani classical singer Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande. His grandson Rahul Deshpande, a noted musician himself makes his acting debut with this film, essaying the renowned artist’s role.
Along with Deshpande, actors Anita Date, Amey Wagh, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Sarang Sathaye, Kaumudi Walokar, Durga Jasraj and Kumud Mishra will be seen in key roles too. The movie will comprise of more than 15 songs composed by Deshpande himself.
The film is an ode to Vasantrao's journey - a canvas of exciting events and experiences which shaped his music; an untold story of a persona showcasing the journey of an artist’s struggles who battles on endless fronts to prove his Art and himself…how Vasantrao came to be known as Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande!
