Sameer Anjaan Slams Gen Z Bollywood Music As “Jarring Noise”

Veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan has voiced strong criticism of contemporary Bollywood music, calling many Gen Z-era tracks “jarring noise” and expressing concern over the industry’s creative direction.

Speaking about the current landscape, the songwriter, known for penning thousands of hit songs, said that melody and lyrical depth have taken a backseat in today’s productions. He remarked that “shor badh gaya hai” (noise has increased), suggesting that heavy sound design is often overpowering meaningful lyrics.

Anjaan highlighted that the imbalance between music and words is not only affecting individual songs but also diluting the emotional impact of film soundtracks as a whole. He stressed that earlier compositions were rooted in storytelling and melody, elements he believes are increasingly missing in today’s output.

The lyricist’s remarks have sparked conversation across the industry, reigniting the debate around evolving musical trends, changing audience preferences, and whether the shift toward high-energy production has come at the cost of substance.
