Femme Music, an India-based independent record label dedicated exclusively to female artists, has signed a global distribution agreement with Melbourne-headquartered Community Music, strengthening its efforts to take South Asian female talent to international music markets.
Under the partnership, Community Music will handle worldwide music distribution for all three of Femme Music's sub-labels , Nyima Records, Tala Root Records and 34 Beats , across major digital service providers (DSPs).
Launched in 2024, Community Music is an independent artist-focused distribution platform under Australian music company UNIFIED Music Group.
The partnership follows a meeting between Femme Music co-founder Sanoli Chowdhury and UNIFIED Music Group and Community Music founder Jaddan Comerford at All About Music in Mumbai earlier this year. What was initially scheduled as a 20-minute meeting reportedly extended into a 90-minute conversation, eventually leading to the distribution agreement.
Commenting on the partnership, Sanoli Chowdhury said, “Having the right distributor is a big deal. Their aim is very similar to ours in terms of long-term growth for indie artists, and right now Femme Music is looking to work with people with whom our vision aligns.”
Femme Music co-founder Vinod Gadher added, “Community Music is in line with everything we want for our artists: independence, global reach and a long-term view. Having an ecosystem that connects artists from India to New Zealand makes this a natural partnership for Femme Music.”
Comerford said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to investing in talent and building sustainable careers for independent artists.
“When I met Sanoli at All About Music in Mumbai this year, I knew straight away we had to work together. Her passion for music was obvious from the outset, but so was her care for the people and the culture behind it,” he said.
He added that Femme Music shares Community Music's vision of supporting artists through long-term career development.
The agreement comes as Femme Music continues to expand its catalogue and international presence. The label recently released Nyima Vol. 2, a compilation focused on South Asian artists, under its sub-label Nyima Records.
Through the partnership, Femme Music aims to strengthen its global distribution network and create wider international opportunities for female artists from South Asia.
