Abu Dhabi To Open Dedicated Youth Orchestra Institution Offering Free Music Education

Abu Dhabi is strengthening its investment in music education and talent development with the establishment of a dedicated institution for Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi. The initiative, announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), aims to provide aspiring young musicians with free access to world-class music education and create long-term pathways for emerging talent.

Scheduled to open in January 2027 in the Mina Zayed (MiZa) district, the institution will feature a 600-seat concert hall and 18 rehearsal and practice rooms. The facility is designed to provide a professional environment for musical training, rehearsals and collaborative performances.

The first cohort will comprise 100 students aged between six and nine, with enrolment now open. The programme will offer training in both Western classical and Arabic musical traditions, with additional ensembles for advanced students planned during its first year.

Building a long-term music education ecosystem

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said the initiative reflects the emirate’s commitment to making culture and creativity more accessible while nurturing the next generation of musicians.

He said the institution would serve as a platform for emerging talent and contribute to Abu Dhabi’s growing cultural ecosystem, while helping preserve its musical heritage. Beyond technical training, the programme is intended to develop creativity, discipline, confidence and collaboration among young participants.

The institution’s building has been designed by the late architect Frank Gehry, whose other projects in Abu Dhabi include the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the recently announced Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi performing arts institution.

Investing in the future of music

The launch adds to Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to expand cultural participation and strengthen its position as an international centre for arts and creativity. As a UNESCO Creative City of Music, the emirate is seeking to create opportunities for young people to develop their musical abilities and participate in its evolving cultural landscape.

By combining free education with dedicated performance and rehearsal infrastructure, Youth Orchestra Abu Dhabi aims to establish a sustained pathway for young musicians to progress from early training to more advanced ensemble opportunities.
