Nagaland's Hornbill Showcase To Feature Band Battle Finale In Delhi Today

Nagaland is set to bring its music, fashion and cultural heritage to the national capital with the Hornbill Cultural Showcase – Ticket to Hornbill 2026, scheduled to take place at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, on November 6 from 5 pm.

Organised by the Government of Nagaland through Tourism Nagaland and the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), the showcase will feature performances celebrating the state's cultural traditions, alongside the grand finale of a nationwide band competition. The event aims to give Delhi audiences a preview of the Hornbill Festival, which will be celebrated in Nagaland in December.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will attend as the Chief Host, while Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, will serve as the Co-Host.

Highlighting the tourism potential of the initiative, Along said the showcase would introduce Delhi audiences to Nagaland's cultural heritage and contemporary creative talent, while encouraging them to visit the state during the Hornbill Festival in December. He added that the initiative is expected to create tourism opportunities, foster personal connections and generate benefits for local communities.

The cultural programme will feature performances by Azi Rudy, Sentien Kichu and Vetho Rhakho. It will also include an ethnic fusion fashion showcase by the Nagaland Designers' Association, a folk fusion dance performance by The Ao Naga Fusion and a folk fusion song by Densu.

TaFMA chairman Theja Meru said the event would provide a platform to showcase cultural knowledge and traditions passed down through generations, while encouraging younger practitioners to bring their creativity to the forefront and strengthen their connection with their communities.

A key highlight of the evening will be the grand finale of Ticket to Hornbill – India's Biggest Band Battle, which will bring together emerging bands from across the country.

Presented by Casio India, the competition features a cash prize pool of Rs. 20 lakh, along with individual musical instruments worth Rs. 5 lakh. The winning band will also get an opportunity to perform at the Hornbill Music Festival in Nagaland in December 2026.

According to Meru, the competition aims to provide independent bands with greater visibility, access to new audiences, professional networking opportunities and financial support. The initiative is also expected to help emerging musicians build sustainable careers through performance bookings and industry collaborations.

The New Delhi showcase is part of Nagaland's larger outreach programme ahead of the Hornbill Festival. By bringing together music, fashion, folk traditions and emerging independent talent, the initiative seeks to strengthen the state's cultural presence while positioning the festival as a platform for tourism and creative exchange.
