As a recording engineer based in New Delhi, I have had my share of nightmarish artists/bands that have come in to record their music. At some level it’s hilarious but from a professional perspective, I only wish bands would take the recording process far more seriously. 

Given the ease with which we can edit, copy, paste, re-record, amateur bands take the easy route & eventually are left with half baked performances and songs or worse, nothing at all. 

For all the amateur bands that are looking to book studio time, here are 5 things you need to consider and understand before you shell out the money 

The recording studio is NOT a rehearsal space 

Many a times, bands come in and book a session for say, 4 hours to record their music but end up rehearsing sections for 80% of the time. Make sure your band is well rehearsed BEFORE you enter the studio. It makes your engineer happy & it ensures your money doesn’t go to waste.  Don’t over crowd the studio

Arrive on time 

Arriving 30 minutes before your session time will save you money as well as leave time to tune and set up your instruments. 

Respect the studio

Listen to your engineer 

Recording your music and having a copy of it can really be an exhilarating experience whether you’re a hobbyist or a professional. Keep these pointers at hand before your book your next session and don’t forget to have fun while you’re there!
