Gig of the week | Easy Wanderlings & The Tour
I stumbled upon this band called Easy Wanderlings a few months back on a late night sitting on my terrace and I don’t know if it was the dreamy vocals or just their folksy-soul-pop vibe that leaves you a bit dazed and very awestruck by the simplicity and impact their music makes. It has this real mellow, calm and compelling, almost Simon & Garfunkel quality to it and I was hooked. Easy Wanderlings is a Pune based quintet whose music is a soothing amalgamation of ambient soul, pop and folk. They call themselves a musical journal of their cherished memories about soulful conversations, escapades into the majestic wilderness, and of the feelings felt when spending quiet evenings at home. Until their performance at NH7 Weekender in Pune last year, the group never really listed their names out or their origin story. But on 6th August 2017, they released their debut album 'As Written In Stars' Also, have to mention their artistic vision and aesthetics, which are so on point - whether it’s their quirky album artwork or their breathtaking videos which compliment their soul soothing melodies. We love the video for ‘Enjoy It While It Lasts’ which literally feels like a walk in the woods, under an open sky.

The Easy Wanderling’s first gig after the release of As Written in the Stars was a BYOH event held at Gray Spark Audio in Pune on August 20th – a headphones-only listening experience for about 20 to 25 people. They also played at a very special show at Sofar Bombay, held in collaboration with Amnesty.

The As Written In Stars Tour

[caption id="attachment_2022" align="alignleft" width="285"] Artwork by The Doodle Mafia[/caption] The Wanderlings are on a two-city mini tour organized by the newly launched record label and talent management agency TAABIIR. When asked founders of their foray into the Independent Music Industry, Raghav Srivastava and Ankit Chugh say "TAABIIR is an attempt to break away from the period of austerity to pave the way for a new generation of artists. Within those words lies our most fundamental goal - Find artists who are experimenting, creating their unique style and help them in every conceivable way to achieve their goal. With a DIY spirit and the distinct vision of putting artists and their music before anything else, our sole aim is to empower musicians. While we do have a special place for homegrown talent in our hearts, music is hardly bound by borders. We aim to handpick fresh talent from across the world and find them the audience they deserve. With the right outreach and engagement, musicians can occupy a unique space in music and culture." If you haven't heard their music yet, this is your chance to listen, explore and see them play their easy breezy melodies mixed with fun, playful lyrics. It's hard not to stop 'wandering' for more with one gig left in Delhi and a couple more in Chennai.
