YouTube, under the ownership of Google, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 100 million subscribers for its Music and Premium services globally, including trial subscriptions, as of January this year. Adam Smith, the VP of Product at YouTube, expressed gratitude to the platform's subscribers for their support, highlighting the journey from humble beginnings to a community of 100 million across more than 100 countries.
Smith emphasized YouTube's commitment to delivering an outstanding experience for its global community in a recent blog post. Over the past year, YouTube has enhanced the Premium playback experience by introducing features such as the ability to seamlessly continue watching content across various devices like smart TVs and tablets. Additionally, an upgraded version of 1080p HD was introduced.
YouTube also ventured into innovative generative AI features, with Premium users being among the first to experience these developments, as stated by Smith. For music enthusiasts, the platform introduced the Samples tab, offering a swift method to explore new music, along with a personalized radio-building experience. Moreover, YouTube Music now hosts podcasts.
Neeraj Kalyan, President of T-Series, acknowledged the significance of YouTube Premium and Music surpassing the 100 million subscriber mark, describing it as a noteworthy moment for the music industry. Kalyan expressed a commitment to continued investment in their partnership with Google, aiming to foster the growth of the subscription business, enhance fan experiences, and contribute to the overall expansion of the Indian music ecosystem.
