Alyssa Raghu, the Indian-origin singer has won hearts and made it to the Top 10 on American Idol.

On Monday’s Top 14 result episode of American Idol, the judges – Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan – had an important decision to choose one person each that would qualify as the Top 10 finalist. 16-year old Alyssa Raghu took a risk and performed a stripped down version of Katy’s 2011 hit song “The one that got away” in front of the legend herself. She moved the judges with her emotional performance, even managing to receive a standing ovation.

“How dare you! How dare you come out and sing that song a hundred times better than me?” – Katy exclaimed after her performance.

Alyssa was even more determined to make it through this year, after getting eliminated before the Top 14 in her previous journey with American Idol. She took vocal and dance lessons to hone her skills further and also performed over 200 live shows to get the experience. This season, she delivered one power packed performance after another and made it to the Top 14.

“Since getting eliminated last season, I took everything the judges said to heart because I knew it was important. I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”, said Alyssa on the show.

After her performance, a teary-eyed Alyssa told Ryan Seacrest that she was “super grateful for the opportunity to have made it this far”. And Although she did not manage to get enough audience votes to get her through, Katy exercised her vote and decided to send her to the Top 10.

“It means the world to me that the judges believe I can win. I know so many people voted, and I will never forget that. This is incredible, I’m glad I can be a role model for those young girls who think just like me,” said Alyssa.

Joining her on the biggest singing platform, amongst the Top 10 are Alejandro Aranda, Walker Burroughs, Wade Cota, Dimitrius Graham, Laine Hardy, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Uche Ndubizu, Madison Vandenburg and Laci Kaye Booth.
